When U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was asked by the media about the protests taking place in India, he avoided making a direct comment. Instead, he said that India is a democratic country where elections are held.
The recent protests in the national capital have become a topic of international discussion. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now responded to the issue. He said that protests take place every day in the United States, and demonstrations are also held in India. However, he emphasized that these are matters of India’s internal politics.
“India is a democratic country, and elections are conducted democratically. I do not want to comment on India’s internal political matters. Protests take place every day in the United States as well,” Rubio said.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is on a two-day visit to India. During his visit, he addressed New Delhi’s concerns regarding Washington’s growing relations with Pakistan and China. He stated that the United States’ relationship with any other country would never come at the expense of its relationship with India.
Speaking about the Trump administration’s growing ties with Pakistan, Secretary Rubio said, “Our relationship with any country in the world will never come at the expense of our relationship with India. We do not view our relationship with India in that way.”
He added that his visit to India, the United States’ commitment to a trade agreement, ongoing discussions, and the work both countries are doing together demonstrate Washington’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with New Delhi.
What Did He Say About Relations With Pakistan?
Marco Rubio further stated that Washington’s relationship with Islamabad could put the United States in a position to help prevent activities that might concern India.
“Pakistan is a country with which we have a relationship, and it is important for us to maintain that relationship. In some ways, this could be a positive development if we can help prevent activities that could lead to conflict. In other words, if we can use our influence in a positive way,” he said.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of State also acknowledged the difficulties involved in ending the four-year-long Russia–Ukraine war.
He said that stopping the war is extremely difficult. If ending the conflict had been easy, it would have been resolved long ago.
