Bhubaneswar: The state government has appointed senior health professional Durga Madhav Satpathy as the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) in Odisha. Satpathy was earlier serving as the Superintendent of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Incumbent DMET Santosh Mishra has been appointed as the Director of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in the capital city here. The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) is the governing body for medical education in the state.
All government medical colleges, dental colleges and nursing institutions in the state come under the administrative jurisdiction of the DMET. The directorate supervises admission process in medical colleges and nursing institutions. It is also responsible for improvement of healthcare infrastructure in the state and skill upgradation among doctors and paramedical personnel.
It is worth mentioning here that the state government is planning to start MBBS course at the PGIMER, a premier health institute in odisha .
