KalingaNagar -: Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) has successfully conducted the trial of its first ever movement of Ferro Chrome in a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck for export at its Ferro Alloys Plant in Jajpur on Wednes-day. This initiative reinforces Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint in logistics and supply chain operations. The pioneering
step involves movement of Ferro Alloys in CNG trucks from FAP Jajpur to Paradip/Vizag, reducing the CO2 by approximately 20-25% com-pared to the High-Speed Die-sel trucks. This has been ex-ecuted in collaboration with One Supply Chain and the procurement team of Tata Steel and M/s CJ Darel team. Amit Choubey, Chief, Logistics (FAMD) flagged off the consignment at the company’s Ferro Alloys Plant in presence of Alok
Kumar Panda, Head, FAP Jajpur, Soumya Basu, Senior Area Manager, Logistics-FG (FAMD), Munmun Tah, Se-nior Area Manager, Procure-ment, Transportation (Raw Materials) and representa-tives of M/s Darcl.Speaking on CJ the achievement, Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-charge, FAMD, said, “Sustainability is at the core of our opera-tions, and this trial run un-derlines our commitment to reducing emissions across
the value chain. The suc-cessful experiment of CNG trucks for Ferro Chrome exports is a testament to our continuous pursuit of greener and more efficient logistics solutions.” As part of the company’s efforts to adopt environmentally friendly practices, Tata Steel
in the recent past – had conducted trial run of Elec-tric Vehicle (EV) trucks at FAP Jajpur for movement of Ferro Chrome and Reduc-tant for its shorter haul sec-tors. The steel major also had launched multi-modal movement of Ferro alloys from its plants in Odisha through coastal route via Paradip port and Vizag port to cater to its customers in the western part of India. The company has been ex-ploring innovative and sus-tainable transportation solu-tions to enhance efficiency while minimizing environ-mental impact. The trial of CNG trucks marks a crucial step in this direction and will help significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
