New Delhi -: Allegations that posts and accounts critical of the government are being removed from the social media platform Instagram have sparked intense political debate. Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has criticised the Central Government over the issue. He said that silencing people who question the government will not solve the problems they are raising.
In a post on social media platform X on Wednesday, Deepke alleged that thousands of posts and accounts are being removed every day. People are using platforms such as Instagram to raise questions and express their concerns. However, he argued that removing posts will not eliminate the underlying problems. He warned that such actions could further increase public distrust in the government.
Claims of Thousands of Posts and Accounts Being Removed
Ashutosh Ranka, another member of the CJP, has also claimed that restrictions have been imposed on thousands of Instagram accounts across the country and that millions of videos have been removed.
Comedian and lyricist Varun Grover has also alleged that a musical version of his satirical poem criticising the government’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” goal was removed from Instagram.
Reports suggest that the action was taken in response to legal requests. However, the Central Government has not issued any clear clarification regarding these allegations.
The legal news reporting website LiveLaw has also stated that Instagram removed its post concerning an Election Commission of India (ECI) affidavit filed before the Supreme Court.
