Amidst a series of school shootings in America, news has emerged that another teenage gunman entered a school and opened fire. It is known that three students and one teacher lost their lives in this attack. However, a parent present at the scene fired back at the attacker from his own gun. On Friday, US President Donald Trump praised the father’s action.
According to reports, 36-year-old Caleb Giamanco intervened during the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. He works as a carpenter by profession and has two daughters. His mother, Kendra Freeman, stated that after the shooting began, her son confronted the gunman.
According to information provided by local Police Chief Mike Krantz, Giamanco’s .40-caliber pistol was legally stored in his vehicle. He had come to drop off his daughters at school when he heard gunfire inside the school and saw a teacher struggling with the gunman. He then retrieved his gun and fired at the assailant.
US President Donald Trump praised Giamanco during a White House briefing. He said, “It’s a terrible thing, but thank goodness there was a person like that who had a gun and knew how to use it.” Three students and one teacher died in this attack. Such incidents—where an ordinary citizen takes up arms to confront an attacker—are considered rare in America. Nevertheless, this event has reignited debate over the importance of an ordinary citizen’s role before the police arrive.
Let it be known that school shootings in America are not a new occurrence. Many such shooting incidents have surfaced in schools previously. Over the past two years, guns have been roaring in greater numbers. The White House has expressed that the Trump administration is taking action in this regard.
