Tigiria -: A monkey that had been creating panic for several days in Kanthipur village under Gadadharapur Panchayat and in Balabhadrapur and Bishnupur villages under Hatamala Panchayat in Tigiria Block has finally been captured by the Forest Department.
Many people, including vehicle drivers, had been injured in the monkey’s attacks. The monkey showed no hesitation in targeting even small children in several areas. While some people sustained minor injuries, others were seriously hurt. Out of fear of further attacks, local residents were afraid to leave their homes.
To protect themselves from the monkey, villagers began keeping vigil outside their homes with sticks. Despite the widespread panic, earlier efforts by the local forest department to capture the monkey had failed, leading to growing frustration and dissatisfaction among the public.
After the incident was reported in various media outlets yesterday, the forest department showed urgency in addressing the issue. This afternoon, a specialized team from Kapilas, along with a veterinarian and local forest guard Prashanta Kumar Parida, arrived in Kanthipur village. With the help of tranquilizers, they successfully sedated and captured the monkey.
The monkey has been taken into custody by the Forest Department. According to Forest Guard Mr. Parida, a decision on where to release the monkey will be made following the instructions of the DFO (Divisional Forest Officer).
